Superior quality compared to iTunes August 31, 2007 S. Padua (Oklahoma City, OK) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
My analog cable TV reception isn't stellar. I've been watching Battlestar via an iTMS season pass since "Pegasus" in season 2; and the quality's really been been hit and miss- even after Apple doubled the resolution and started using H.264 late last year. Gray blacks, blocky motion, lots of compression artifacts and generally toned-down color. It was still better than watching on analog cable.. but not by a vast amount. The Unbox episodes of Battlestar (via a Series2 TiVo) make the iTMS versions look like crappy analog cable. Almost twice the bitrate and twice the filesize, and the same price per episode. No grayed space scenes. No choppy motion- everything's nice and fluid. The quality's closer to DVD/MPEG-2. Six's dress is a vibrant red, not a muted compressed red. And the action loaded "Exodus Pt 2" simply looks amazing. I've compared both versions on a LCD HDTV- (iTunes over 1366x768 VGA vs TiVo over S-Video)there is no comparison, Unbox wins hands down. I hope Unbox plans to carry Season 4 of Battlestar and uploads promptly to the store the day after airing- something Apple failed to do frequently. My only complaint is that standard-def TiVo users are stuck with 4:3 Letterbox instead of true 16:9 Widescreen. If a widescreen version was available- I'd upgrade to Series 3/TiVoHD in a heartbeat. But this is still the best quality D/L version of Battlestar that you can buy.
Got to be a way December 7, 2007 jgcole (reality) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The download process should include the possibility of stopping a download without deleting the file. I purchased 3 files at once and the one I wanted to watch last started downloading first. I tried to move the one I wanted first to the top of the queue, but faced an error message telling me that I did not have enough memory to download the file. The other file kept loading. I couldn't stop it without deleting the file, which I didn't want to have to buy again. Why would such an option not exist?
Some useful tips for watching this series August 31, 2007 dave (bay area, california) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
Do yourself a favor and watch one episode. That's all it takes. :) If you don't mind forking over $15, you can download B.G. The Mini-Series for the backstory before watching Season 1, Episode 1. Or get the summary version by watching the first few minutes of the FREE "Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far." Also, as of 8/2007, Season 2, Episodes 6 & 7 ("Home") are switched. Someone at Amazon screwed up and mislabled them. So watch what is labeled "Episode 7" (in reality Episode 6) before the one that Amazon has labeled "Episode 6". It's possible they will have fixed the problem by the time you read this. Either way you'll figure it out if you watch a little of both.
Why no Mac OS? December 5, 2007 dr.kimura (The Beach, Santa Cruz) 10 out of 31 found this review helpful
WTF?!?! This does not support Mac OS? Horrible! I may never buy ANYTHING from Amazon again unless they fix this ASAP.
