"smart chip" went dumb and broke my printer October 10, 2007 Reza Naima (San Francisco, CA USA) 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is the first cannon that I've used that has the chip on it to track ink usage and all that (to make it harder to refill), however, something went awry and now it thinks it's a different color, and my printer keeps reporting errors. This happens almost every time I print -- and by removing and reinserting it a couple times, it'll eventually recognize it as the right color. But then, after a couple printouts, it decides its the wrong color again and I have to open the print, pull the cartridge, put it back in, close the lid, wait for it to do it's dance, then wait for either another error message or the printout to come. I used to love this printer, but I hate how companies try to bilk $$ from you for their overpriced ink (i think it's in the thousands of dollars a gallon on profit) -- and now that they're using chips to force your buying decision, it's just a dirty move on their part, and another point of failure in the system. Alas, you still screwed as there aren't other options -- perhaps sending letters of disappointment to cannon might do something, though I doubt it.
Canon PGI- 5BK 2 PK January 3, 2007 L. Vargo (Las Vegas. NV USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you get the Canon CLI-8 INK TANK 4-PACK, then you will need to get the Canon PGI-5BK 2PK. You save money on both of them.
Good Product - But February 11, 2007 DPG (Austin, TX) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Good product.....but....I hate the fact that Canon charges so much for these tanks and has made it impossible for 3rd parties to provide OEM tanks. Do you realize how much they are charging for a gallon of ink!?! Around $1500! A good gallon of ink runs around $100. Thanks for Amazon for selling to us at a discount which is less than you can get locally.
Great value for a good product May 28, 2007 R. E. Phillips 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After souring on Epson printers (C.R.A.P.), I love both of my Canons. They're not ink hogs (could be better though) and the heads aren't clogging up once a month. Here is a great deal for two cartridges at not much more than the usual cost of one. Color me impressed.
Easy to swap ink cartridge July 21, 2006 Michael Klazema (Stamford, CT, USA) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this cartridge because black was the first to deplete in my 5 cartridge system. The swap was easy and fast and the printer immediately responded with better quality black printing.
