Over produced August 13, 2008 CDarbs (NYC) 17 out of 25 found this review helpful
Trashy, hokey lyrics and just a mediocre pop song. I'm not sure the reason for all the yelling, but this track is so overly done in post-production that I doubt it's even her voice anymore. Lord help her when she's on tour (provided she's not lipsynching, that is).
Sex sells? June 24, 2008 Stefan Crane (KY USA) 16 out of 42 found this review helpful
Sex doesn't sell with this horrible trash. This is nothing more than a lyrical attempt to sell lesbianism AGAIN. Been there, done that!!!!!!! Tila Tequila is a major crowd pleaser on MTV. Can we PLEASE move on as a human race? The songwriting is so horrid, it can't be classified as campy. Camp is fun, this is not. The music/composition is just another cookie cutter piece of trash as well. Even a turd can float, but you can't polish it. I'm ashamed that this single/LP was released, ashamed that the recording industry will dive to whatever depths it takes to bring in a dollar. The vocal is dull and lackluster. Don't bother. Move on. Be silent.
You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Girl Who... Uh... Ahhh Never Mind June 18, 2008 Flap Jackson (State Road, NC) 12 out of 23 found this review helpful
This song is so blatantly self-explanatory, it screams controversial. Sure it has all the pop flavorings of a Justin Timberlake track, but lyrically, this song is anything but mainstream. Lyrics: Nope, not reviewing those this time. You form your own opinion. Music: Modern pop that is all the rage that you would hear on any top 40 radio station today. In fact, musically, it's sort of lazy and bland. Of course if you're a mainstream radio zombie, you'll love the music. Overall, this song hides nothing. Take it or leave it, or see it as the camp fest it is. I mean, the moon doesn't have this much cheese! This is certainly a one-hit wonder, in the vein of "I Like Big Butts," and other camp classics. The review title references a Family Guy episode title if you were wondering. Update: Holy freakin' crap! This abomination of a song just hit #1. Say what you want, but this is the true definition of selling your soul to the devil. Simply put, Katy Perry is just trying to ride a wave to become popular and rich, and she'll do anything to get to the top. Congratulations Katy, this is your penthouse. No substance, just pillow fluff. I've gotten over camp, this is just crap. Consider this: this song the 1,000 #1 of the rock era that began with "Rock Around The Clock." Congratulations America, look where we've come in rock & roll. Just one week ago, we had something original on our radios, now we have this mainstream garbage haunting our airwaves. I still contend the music didn't die, it just sleeps underground in the form of Indie Rock.
Truth or Dare...? July 6, 2008 Awkward... (Rural PA) 12 out of 30 found this review helpful
I am not a homophobe, but I just have two comments about this mediocre pop song: 1) Between this song, Pink's U + Ur Hand, and countless Hip-Hop "like it from behind" references, it's virtually impossible to listen to the radio today without exposing preteen children to some form of inappropriate overt sexuality. 2) How many young girls will be inspired to "experiment" this summer based on the pop culture validation of this song?
In love with a girl July 10, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
Katy Perry's "I kissed a girl" IS a catchy, cheesy, summertime dance pop song. Former Christian pop star Kate Hudson (now Katy Perry) decides to be "daring" and sings about how she "kissed a girl/I liked it." The song is as cheesy and ephemeral as the girl's cherry chapstick. Perry isn't trying to make a serious statement about lesbian love like Melissa Etheridge's "Come to my window",in which the blues rocker defiantly faces down a condemning society ("what do they know about this love?") "I kissed a girl" is tacky, like the Jill Sobule version, except Sobule was able to get Fabio for her video, and the song ends with the two women living happily ever after. As a dance pop song,it's fun, with a catchy melody. The instrumentation is perfect for a dancefloor. Other than that,it's not worth taking seriously. Katy Perry kissed a girl, she liked it, it was so wrong, it felt so right... who cares???
