A Great Beginning to an Informative Series April 7, 2000 Northeast Texas Reader (Northeast Texas, United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Take these four men: (1) an intellectual Trade School (West Point) early-out to join-the-war-effort (WWII), (2) a mustang (rises to officer ranks from enlisted), (3) a rich boy sportsman, and (4) a 4th generation soldier whose ancestor was a Buffalo Soldier, and you have "The Lieutenants" and "The Captains", "The Majors", etc. Assorted other officers and enlisted personnel blend into the story to create the beginning of a fast-paced, informative series.Learn about armor and armored cav tactics, plus gain an insight into the ground floor of army aviation. Learn about the 4 S's, regular vs. reserve commissions, and various ways to obtain a commission. All in a fiction format! I have re-read this series at least 3 times.
Excellent book! November 4, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great book! I have always been interested in the military, especially WW2, but had never read a book about the military. Once I started The Lieutenants, I couldn't put it down. I'm definitely finishing the rest of this series!
A great read... July 17, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Once you begin reading this series you will be hooked for the duration. Once I begin reading a Griffin book, I cannot put it down.
The Pond July 29, 2010 TBerg (WGV) Doesn't the newly unclassified POND sound surprisingly like the organization that Felter runs? Even the plots look like the ones that have been released through the FIA. WOW, WEB had some inside scoop?
Second book read on Kindle... March 2, 2009 Michael Kirkland (Huntsville, AL USA) W. E. B. Griffin does a great job opening a window by which to view military life. My father had the privilege to serve in the army for 22 years and while I made my own observations then about military service; this work of fiction opened up a whole new perspective. If you're interested in what it is really like to serve in the military, I suspect this series is the closest thing you will get to it (without actutally serving).
Excellent read!
