This weak, 1991 remake of the French comedy La Chevre stars Danny Glover as a detective who is sent to Mexico to find a businessman's daughter (Sheila Kelley) and who gets stuck with a hapless assistant (Martin Short). The film wears out its welcome very quickly, despite some passable physical comedy from Short. Both actors have made much better movies; don't be surprised if you can't make it through to the end of this one. --Tom Keogh

Why isn't this on DVD yet!!!! This film has been one of my all time favorite comedies. I'll be waiting for the DVD release. Hopefully it will be soon. Martin Short is just perfect for this role. And poor Danny Glover. You could just imagine being in his character's shoes.

Very good remake of the French film "La Chevre" ("Knock on the Wood"). First and last good film by director Nadia Tass.
Valerie (Sheila Kelley) is unluckiest women on the face of the Earth. She disappears in Mexico without the trace and nobody have any clue what happen. Her frustrated rich father taking his last chance with very odd team: "Private Eye" Ray (Danny Glover) and Eugene, unluckiest man on the face of the Earth ( Martin Short). The plan is simple: go to Mexico and let Eugene just be himself. Did it work? Sure it did, but you have to se how.
This comedy is 100% pure fun. The only one reason why I gave it 4 stars is the French film, which I've seen many times. No one can beat a French team of Gerard Depardieu and Pier Rishard.

The editorial review by Tom Keogh couldn't be more inappropriately biased, and wrong. Don't listen to him, he was on crack at the time. This movie is one of the all time best comedies ever. And best of all, the film is not lude or gross - it is a great movie that can enjoyed by everyone. I'm trying to figure out why this movie is not on DVD? A few other good Martin Short comedies are "Clifford" and "Three Fugitives".

5 out of 5 stars Made me laugh out loud not just giggle!!!   July 29, 1999

The movie was very light hearted and not serious at all. Myself and my kids were able to enjoy it together. In this day and age that in itself is a real treat.
