2 out of 5 stars Lost its Edge   October 7, 2007

My local library has the first three seasons on DVD & I tore through them. The shows were great, House was the perfect character & the surrounding cast was outstanding, too. Then season 3 ended, I couldn't wait for the new season to start, but man, was I disappointed.

The edge was gone, House no longer acts like jerk with a purpose, instead, he's just a jerk. And why did the writers hold onto some of House's staff, they're trying to have the best of both worlds, ie, keep the old and bring in the new.

I could go on, but for me, the surest sign that the show's going downhill is that House didn't take one pill on the season opener. Not one. That's not the same House I've been watching for three seasons.

2 out of 5 stars Fourth Season disappointing -- new writers.   November 29, 2007

I agree with others who have noted that the first three seasons of "House" were very noticeably better-written than the fourth season has been. Check it out, you'll find that there's a whole new bunch of writings pumping out the scripts and story lines of the fourth season. One would think that FOX went out and hired teenagers to write the 4th season episodes. It's one thing for Dr. House to be irritable, sarcastic, and even unethical (for the sake of a greater good). It's quite another thing for Dr. House to be just a jerk -- and apparently "for its own sake." Do these new writers actually believe that we who form House's original fan base have just been hoping that someday the main character would become lots more rude and despicable. One of the neatest twists to the early seasons was the way the viewer was drawn to identify with the lead character, despite his outward grumpiness, because beneath all that was someone who had not only a sharp, witty tongue but also exceptional diagnostic skills and a basic goodness of character.

That Dr. House evolved during this fourth season into someone most of us would not want to talk with, let alone work alongside in a medical career. Ironically, it's far easier to identify with that little gecko character who comes on during the "House" commercial breaks. [Hey, I wonder if that's what they intended all along...]

5 out of 5 stars As good if not better.   October 2, 2007

I've been watching House for three seasons, and I had quite high expectations for the premiere of the fourth season. Well, it didn't let me down. The writing has gotten marginally better, but aside from that, it's the same as the previous three seasons. Bravo!
