Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars 3 reviews

Media: Video On Demand

ASIN: B000OJHRXK

Year: 2007

Synopsis:

Bypassing the typical costume drama for a more scandalous take on the times, THE TUDORS focuses on the rarely dramatized, tumultuous early years of King Henry VIII’s nearly 40-year, omnipotent reign (1509-1547) of England. In addition to dalliances with famous female consorts, Catherine of Aragon and the infamous Anne Boleyn, the series delves into Henry’s most notable political relationships, including those with philosopher Sir Thomas More and Thomas Cardinal Wolsey, head of the Catholic Church of England during its break with Rome.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Well acted, but bad history   March 24, 2008

This is a very compelling and well acted drama, and very well worth watching. But, it should be known that great liberties have been taken when it comes to historical accuracy. Time lines are inaccurate in some cases, totally ignored in others. Several characters deaths are totally wrong, both in how they died but also when. Cardinal Wolsey's death is a perfect example. If you know nothing about English history this is a very easy program to watch and get hooked on. As for me, it takes a bit of effort to watch. I don't really understand why the writers took such liberties on the accuracy, the life of Henry VIII is very compelling as it was, no need to "guild the lily" so to speak. I can hardly wait for season two.

5 out of 5 stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers Rocks!   July 3, 2007
Diane Mettam (Bishop, CA)
This program has something for everyone: history, romance, sex, violence, you name it. Rhys Meyers is outstanding as the young King Henry VIII, as are Maria Doyle Kennedy as Katherine of Aragon, Sam Eliot as Cardinal Wolsey, Jeremy Northam as Sir Thomas More - the list goes on and on. The production values are impeccable - costumes, sets, all are first class. It's fascinating to see Henry from this viewpoint, as a young man. He was indeed the "rock star" of his age.

5 out of 5 stars Love this series!!!   July 25, 2008

This is a great new series. I understand that the series may not be completely historically correct but it may get people interested enough to learn more about that time. That is what it did for me. Can't wait for season three.
