Good power, god materials, nice feel....made in China July 3, 2007 P. Hanley (NJ) 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
Very nice saw. The blade was practically 90 degrees out of the box, and it feels good in my hand. I didn't have any problems with binding either due to the depth of cut or the blade cover, and it seems to spin rather freely. I like the brake as well, my previous saw didn't have one. One star gets knocked off because they used to make their good stuff here in the States, but this one's made in China. I returned a Milwaukee 6390 because the left handed blade would continually bind since the blade guard was specifically made for the left handed cut instead of being right hand viewing capable. That one was made in Mexico. Do any tool manuafacturers make their stuff here anymore? Sigh...
Great saw !!!! May 22, 2007 G. Wallander (Oconomowoc,WI. USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this saw about a month ago and I love that it is so light compared to the milwaukee saws. I am normily a Milwaukee guy , but I wanted to try a different brand so I took a chance on makita. I own alot of makita tools just not there saws . I am a carpenter and I need stuff to last because it gets used every day for 8+ hours. After I used the saw I love the balance and weight I also think the LED work light is a nice thing to have in low light conditions. All around I would recomend to all people that need a saw that is built to last!!!
Excellent new saw from Makita! June 1, 2007 ToolFreak (Texas, USA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
This new saw from Makita is an outstanding improvement over previous models. It has a much more substantial feel and the rubber grips are nice too. The baseplate is now made from cast magnesium which should make it stronger and add to its durability. The rubber grips on the depth and bevel adjustment levers are also welcomed, no more skinned knuckles trying to pry the old style loose. The fit and finish of this saw is also outstanding. The saw has as much or more power than any other sidewinder on the market. I'm not a salesman, just one who appreciates fine tools and this saw from Makita would make a nice addition to anyones tool bin.
Great saw for a homeowner's lifetime September 24, 2007 Zig Schwartz (Boston, MA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is the best circular saw I have ever used. I used to own the previous version, 5007FK. I'm a homeowner, not a pro, and my old saw 'disappeared' when some contractors were at the house. I went for this upgraded model as a replacement and haven't been disappointed. I've used it on multiple projects (deck, bookcases, some light framing) and it is powerful and cuts true. It is a big improvement over the old version in several ways. The ergonomics are better, the adjustment levers are now rubber coated (used to be smaller hard plastic knobs), and the cast magnesium base is more solid than the old stamped aluminum base. Also, the blade guard is redesigned and no longer binds up on 2x material. Great saw. Highly recommended. Comparison shop against the Milwaukee and the Porter-Cable (forget the DeWalts) and you'll see this Makita comes in first. My only complaint is that the included blade is junk - mine lost two carbide teeth on my first project. Ditch the blade for a good Irwin or DeWalt blade.
Great saw if you are Right Handed September 23, 2008 K. D. Payne (Chattanooga) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My husband has been in construction for ages, he's a carpenter and we have recently started a construction company. He needed a few new tools for the hotel he's currently building so this saw was one of a few purchases we made from Amazon. The saw works wonderfully, and cuts exactly what it is supposed to cut, I WOULD give this saw 5 stars, if either my husband or myself were right handed (not that I plan on using it much). The problem for those of us who are lefties is that the blower blows the sawdust directly into your face, no getting around it. We've basically handed this saw off to our right handed saw guy to use. I am sure that somewhere out there Makita makes a left handed version, but in the meantime we're out shopping for a different saw. If you are right handed, this is an excellent saw for the money and has held up well for both a school remodel and building a 4 story hotel so far. Just beware if you are left handed that you should try to either find a left handed model, or get a different saw. Another random note - If you order from amazon, you will have to have a person at home to sign for the delivery. It wasn't a problem for us, but you should know since amazon doesn't have that listed anywhere.
