Difficult to put together but works just as I expected September 5, 2004 JK8 (Salem, NJ) 56 out of 57 found this review helpful
Yardmachines Lawn Mower (Electric) I chose this mower as it seemed the ultimate in lightweight and easy to handle lawn mowers. I have never owned an electric mower before. I have owned a multitude of gas powered mowers and since my recent 2nd heart attack, I have given up gas mowers with their pull cords and fooling with gas and oil etc. I figured this 13" mower would be something I could handle easily and not put myself at risk. To start with, I received the machine from UPS and the UPS man refused to take the box to my door. He delivered it to the curb and therefore I had to drag the box into the house. It weighed about 50 lbs. so I am glad Amazon gave me free shipping. While opening the box and assembling the unit, I was disimpressed because the two screws that hold the lower handles onto the mower did not fit into the proper holes correctly. I had to find two screws that were narrower to fit the holes. The instructions for assembly were not well written and I had to enlist a friend to help me assemble the mower properly. Although the instructions advise to start using the mower with the wheels in the high position (to avoid "scalping" the grass), the wheels arrived in the low position, and to adjust the grass cutting height one must remove all 4 wheels and reposition them. Once I figured how to do this, it wasn't a big deal, but this was less convenient than the gas mowers which usually have an adjustable bracket over each wheel. Using the mower: It is lighter than a gas mower and so easily maneuverable, it was just as expected and I had hoped for. I can mow for 20 minutes without getting too tired. It is bothersome to keep fooling around with the electric cord but you get used to this. The machine came with a diagram of how to minimize cord frustrations, and I am learning. I mow in the middle height position - the highest position left my grass too high (in my opinion). The grass catcher is small and needs emptying often, but it is lighter than the grass catcher on my old Sears Craftsman gas mower. Overall I am happy with my electric lawn mower. You can't let the grass get too high or else this machine will keep stalling out. I was in the hospital again and the grass grew very thick and high while I was out of commission. So I had to pay the neighborhood boys $25 to cut it with a gas mower because this one wouldn't do the job. But the way I usually do it is I cut a portion of the lawn and then in the next 2 or 3 days continue, to keep the lawn maintained, cutting all the time. This machine is lightweight and I can mow all the time and it is good walking exercise, with a minimum of arm strain. I recommend this mower to everyone in my condition, and to anyone who has a small lawn.
Great mower, except for one potential major flaw July 23, 2004 B. Gabel (Southeastern PA USA) 52 out of 52 found this review helpful
I own a townhouse and have a postage-stamp 0.05 acres to mow so this 13" YardMachines electric mower fits the bill. It's a narrow mower so you have to make a lot of passes to cut the lawn; however, it is very manueverable and you can spin it around with one hand. I set the height to the highest setting and it provides a good cut...not too short, but clearly mowed. The mower starts up easily and is moderately loud, though still a bit quieter than any gas mower I've heard. The blade looks like it will be easy to remove and sharpen too. Unfortunately - and I didn't realize this until I got this mower - the handle does NOT fold back. It is rigid. Don't expect to stick it in a coat closet or even an outdoor Rubbermaid unit unless you have about 4 feet of clearance. At least it is narrow.
Great for small yards June 3, 2004 Hobbes334 (Herndon, VA USA) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
This is the first lawn mower I actually like using. I live in a townhouse, so the size is perfect! It takes no effort at all to start, doesn't stink like gas and is as quiet as a vacuum. It's also very easy to push and maneuver. The bagging feature also keeps my yard clean and neat. Also cuts the grass much smoother than the trimmer I had been using.
AWESOME Lawnmower... April 1, 2005 Maek (Phoenix, AZ United States) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
We just recently moved into a new house and we just had our backyard landscaped. Most of our backyard is desert landscaping, but we about 350 square feet of sod placed. Needless to say, a 21-inch gas lawnmower (and all of the maintenance and hassles of gas that goes with it) was considerable overkill. We were looking for a lawnmower that was smaller, lighter, and quieter. This one fits the bill on all 3 counts. One reviewer claimed that it was difficult to assemble. This is not the case. When the lawnmower arrived, my wife had the mower assembled in less than 15 minutes. The wheels are pure genius in design; the inside "hubcap" serves as a locking mechanism for the wheel that is both stylish AND functional. Spinning the hubcap independently of the wheel makes it easy to position the wheel at one of three different heights for easy, trouble-free mowing. The "bag" is actually a plastic casing that has a built-in handle for easy carrying and emptying. Because the "bag" is small, the load is extremely light and is well-suited to a small yard. If you have a small yard, this is the perfect lawnmower. Our lawn can now be mowed in less than 10 minutes!!
Too Small, Too Fragile April 25, 2007 Ada Camp (SC) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I purchased this mower for a very small yard which is not level. The mower would not roll easily over rough places in the yard, would not cut high grass without bogging down & shutting off. At one point when traveling over a rut in the yard, one of the back wheels flew off even though they had been tightened when the mower was put together. The mower might work well for trimming where grass is short & ground is very flat but is too light weight for anything more.
