Please be aware that the manufacturer of Ariston brand does not have presense in US. I had purchased a washer/dryer from them in 2006 and it was sold to me with a full 2-year warranty (one of the reasons to choose it then). Now it is broken and they don't want to honor the warranty telling that they have no legal obligations to do so.
Do not buy this machine - customer service is non-existent August 6, 2009

We are EXTREMELY unhappy with the service we have received from Ariston on this model. The door mechanism broke after less than 1 year of use. We had luckily purchased a 2-year warranty so we thought we were in luck. Well, after 3 weeks of trying to work with Ariston to find a service tech in the SF Bay Area to fix the unit, the clothes are still sitting in the broken machine getting danker by the day.
We have made 10 unreturned phone calls to Ariston Tech support (Mike Hamilton) who is supposed to be trying to find us a repair person. The repair person (Josh Scholar of SF) has been rude and missed the one appointment he made. He is also not returning our phone calls.
The bottom line is that when you purchase a machine like this, you are also making a bet about what kind of service you are going to get. This model is somewhat rare so it may not be easy to get it fixed. You will not enjoy trying to get Ariston to honor their warranties as they seem to have absolutely no intention of honoring ours. Buy another brand with a proven track record of customer service. Ariston flat out fails in this respect. Perhaps LG is better.
