Amazon.com Product Review Great for drilling pilot holes and driving screws in wood, metal and plastic, Black & Decker's 9.6-volt cordless drill/driver kit is lightweight enough for fixes and upgrades around the house and durable enough for years of use. Equipped with a keyless chuck, bit changes with this 3/8-inch drill are quick and simple. A 6-position clutch adjusts torque to prevent screws from stripping. On-board bit storage offers easy access to a variety of bits for less downtime and more productivity. The drill's mid-handle design balances the meat of the tool over the hand for easy fore-and-aft control. And, soft grips ensure optimal comfort. Variable speeds between 0 and 700 rpm in both forward and reverse let you ease screws into place to avoid splitting, or zip them in quickly to get the job done fast. Cranking out 100 inch-pounds of torque, the tool easily drills and drives smaller bits through light metals, as well as tackling wood and plastic applications around the house. Best of all, at just over 8 inches long and 8 inches tall, this 2-1/4-pound drill is easy on the wrist. The purchase is covered by a manufacturer, 2-year warranty. --Brian D. Olson

Tad expensive July 6, 2005 Kaushik Lodh (New York, USA) 56 out of 56 found this review helpful
I purchased this drill for basic home projects, my utlization extent was not exhaustive neither in terms of project complexity or duration, but it should provide a fairly accurate assesement of this drill set's features. It is a 9.6V drill, supposedly not too powerful, but for my basic requirements - it proved to be sufficient. One basic test I like to run on a drill is to try and drive a threaded screw in to a dry wall and in to a piece of wood without pre-drilling a hole in the surfaces. This drill failed to do so in both occasions. Guide holes needed to be drilled before the screw could be pushed in. But one advantage this drill provides is the fact that the amount of power to the drill can be controlled by how tightly you squeeze the trigger.... Meaning - in certain circumstances you dont want the drill to rotate very fast... not the torque... but just a slow speed of rotation. By gently squeezing the trigger or by increasing the pressure on the trigger, you can achieve this control. This was a very useful feature. My present more expensive drill set doesnt have this feature. However, it comes with only one battery. So if you do run out of juice in the middle of a project, then you have to wait till the battery is recharged. However, I found another great deal on the Black & Decker Firestorm Cordless Multi-Tool MT1203K-2. Since this model was 12Volts AND had a 12V drill AND a mouse sander AND a jig saw attachment, I exchanged the CD9602K 9.6-Volt for it. I was satisfied with the performance of the CD9602K 9.6-Volt drill. But it seemed a bit pricey at $39.99 and the 9.6V seemed a bit too less. Honest opinion: Go for a drill set that has atleast 2 batteries and has slightly more powerful motor. You will feel better at the end of the day. Kaushik.

Great cordless drill/driver for around the house handy work. Fast recharge, battery lasts decently long. Inexpensively excellent product.
Good for the money February 22, 2007 Michael J Edelman (Huntington Woods, MI USA) 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
First things first: If you're a pro, or a serious woodworker looking for a tool to use every day- or even every week- this ain't the one. It doesn't have the muscle to drive 50 screws deep into wood, or to drill steel, or any of a dozen other things you might want a good cordless drill motor for. But that's not what I bought it for. I've got a good Makita 1/2" cordless, and a couple of corded drills for that. This was for my girlfriend, who needs a drill once in a blue moon, and would like an electric screw driver for regular tasks around the house. And for that kind of use, it's very good indeed. So if you're looking for a convenient drill for light duty use, the B&D 9.6v is not a bad choice. One hint: The wall wart charger takes a long time to bring the drill up to full charge, so if you're thinking of regular use, get the fast charger and a second battery.
Not a good drill to me November 21, 2005 THE MAIN MAN (Central Bookin', NY) 12 out of 20 found this review helpful
Black & Decker makes the worst drills for long periods of hard work. If your starting out in the trade world such as electrical installation, plumbing, or masonry this drill is not for you. It is not strong and durable enough for 4 to 8 hours of hard work. However it's good for the home if you plan on putting up curtains. If your new to the trade world these drills are HIGHLY recommended; Dewalt, Craftsman, and Hilte. Make sure they are at least 18 volts and pick up at least one extra battery.
GREAT Drill... June 1, 2007 TheCommish16 (US) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Black and Decker has become really good at putting quality products out at a very reasonable price. This drill/screwdriver is powerful for it's size, and the battery charges last quite a while even under heavy load. On the drill there are different size and shape screwdriver bits that can be easily changed in and out. I've also bought drill attachments and the machine has plenty of power for drilling through walls or floors to install wires, or whatever you may need it to do.
