Product Description With a rugged, classic design the Giro Atlas II Sport Bike Helmet is built for riders who want a comfortable, secure fit in a larger-than-average size. This sport-bike helmet is constructed with in-mold technology that fuses a tough outer microshell to the helmet's EPS foam liner. The fusion process reinforces areas around vents and ribs, making the helmet lighter, cooler and tougher. The Atlas II utilizes Giro's Acu Dial system, which combines single-handed adjustment with a full-fit band for a quick, sure fit. This Giro helmet features a snap-fit visor, and 18 vents that allow cool, fresh air in and stale, warm air out. The Atlas II sport helmet comes in Giro's Universal Fit XL UL size (57-64cm), carefully sculpted and size-specific to simplify the fitting process. Giro's Atlas II helmet is a lightweight 330 grams, and complies with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's safety standards for bicycle helmets. Helmet Tips--You Should Always... - Wear a helmet when you ride
- Wear your helmet low in the front to protect the forehead
- Fasten your buckle and tighten your chin strap
- Check your adjustments every time you wear your helmet
- Inspect your helmet regularly for signs of wear or damage
- Wear a helmet designed for your activity
About Giro Working late nights in his garage, designer/bike racer Jim Gentes created the first lightweight adult cycling helmet in 1985. Friends at NASA helped tune the final helmet shape and vent placement, and the result was the Giro Prolight, a helmet that was better looking than traditional designs while offering a superior fit and still met the industry's toughest safety standards. Plus, it was half the weight of traditional helmets. Since then, Giro has advanced its helmets, many of which have set the standards for styling, function, and innovation for progressive, performance-oriented riders on dirt, pavement, and snow. Giro helmets are worn by millions of riders, cyclists, skiers, and snowboarders around the world. Young-bloods and old-timers; hard-cores, heshers, and hipsters; rookies, experts, and a few regular Joes too--in fact, pretty musch anyone that appreciates superior fit and function, cutting edge styling, and the very best ideas you get in a helmet.

Giro Atlas II bicycle helmet July 16, 2006 Carroll A. Smith (Florida) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
The Atlas II is one of the few bicycle helmets designed for larger than average heads. It fills that need nicely. Otherwise it appears well constructed and similar to other Giro and competitive products for similar prices. If you have a large head, this one is a winner at a very reasonable cost.
I didn't lose my head! July 17, 2007 E. Day (Sedona, AZ) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was in a bicycle race about a year ago when at approximately 20 mph I went over the handle bars. The first thing to hit the pavement was the Atlas (at left front). Even though I had a partial tear in my left shoulder, I suffered no head injury. The helmet was cracked and had a gash in it that was approximately 3 inches long. Without it, I might not be writing this review. After the crash I went on line to look for a new helmet. I thoroughly researched helmets. I wanted to see which have the best safety ratings. Turns out that Atlas II is rated very highly. One of the reasons that it is rated highly is that it has no protuberances that can catch on something at the time of a fall. This helmet got better marks than some helmets costing 3 or 4 times as much. The other advantage for me is that it fits my big round head.

Thoroughly enjoy this helmet! If you have a large head, this helmet will fit - comfortably! Top company. Others try to meet their specifications!
Saved! June 4, 2007 K. Anderson (Duluth, Minnesota United States) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Through a combination of inattention, innate awkwardness and gravity, I took a fall off my Gary Fisher the other day and landed flat on my back on the pavement. I completely cracked the helmet's foam shell but suffered no injury. The helmet did exactly what it was supposed to do which was sacrifice itself to save me a skull fracture. I am a nurse anesthetist and have spent many long hours in the operating room anesthetizing people with the type of head injury I'm convinced this helmet spared me from. Aside from a headache of a day's duration, I had no injury. If you bike without a helmet, please get yourself an organ donation card. If you have a larger than average head, get yourself a Giro Atlas II
Big head, big helmet January 2, 2008 Frank Putnick (PA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Excellent choice for us bucketheads. Very comfortable, not noticeably heavier than the helmets designed for the smallheads.
