Good Ubuntu start July 26, 2007 Joe Sesmick (Philly, PA, USA) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
This book crisply describes what Ubuntu is and how to use it. You get examples that are easy to follow and get you going right away. I don't like wasting time (who does) wading through dense text and found the examples here great. They get to the point while also clearly explaining what's going on. Good deal.
Great product September 19, 2007 Kimberly A. Russell 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
This was even better than I expected. Not only is the book ease to understand but it comes with a free verson of the programs it describes. This was just great.
Good beginning May 11, 2008 W. Newton (Newport News, VA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This provides a great beginning overview to Ubuntu Linux and had some very interesting history about it. Switching from Microsoft to Linux, this book carefully explained the similarities and differences. Because Ubuntu is very intuitive, some of the book's sections were simplistic, but thorough in the explanation. Overall, a very good starting point in learning the new OS.
Does not include Live CD! October 4, 2007 L. R. Weeks (Orlando, Florida United States) 5 out of 12 found this review helpful
I am very fond of the For Dummies series of books. However, all throughout this book and on the cover it states that there is a free live CD that comes with this book. It does not in fact come with this. Even though Linux is always free and always will be, the book should not be advertised as complete with a free CD if it does not have this included with it.
dumb March 17, 2008 Alvin Nicholson (Oroville ca) 3 out of 11 found this review helpful
They got the title wronge, it is ubuntu by dummies. I bought this book to understand how to install ubuntu. This is the most important thing. if this goes wrong your computer is trash. They put in a few paragraphs on this subjech; my computer is trash. I was also interested in a simple explanation of the linux language. all they talk about is gnome.
