disappointed December 15, 2007 S. L. Slatton (Enumclaw, WA United States) 18 out of 24 found this review helpful
I bought this magazine as a Christmas present for my daughters-in-law. When it came I was so disappointed in the amount of advertising. 59 full pages out of 132 were nothing but ads, and another 23 a mix of ads and text. Only 50 pages (about 38% of the magazine) were devoted solely to articles, most of which were interesting and well written. I expected better from Disney, Inc. Sheerie
Why so sour on advertisements? This is a great mag. May 26, 2008 mamaliscious 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
It kills me the other reviewers are complaining about ads in magazines. As a writer, I can tell you lots of advertisements are a sign of a healthy magazine. The amount of text you get in the book is directly related to the number of ad pages. Fewer ad pages=fewer articles. Don't whine about the advertising. If you want magazines to stay around, get over it. As far as the magazine, this, to me, is the publication for "thinking" moms. Wondertime infuses the real experiences of motherhood with everything from deep reflections to fun learning activities. If you have an attention span that likes articles longer than a page or two and that doesn't need to be spoon-fed every idea with tons of graphics and little "bite sized" articles, you'll love Wondertime.
TOO MANY ADVERTISEMENTS!! January 18, 2008 Blarko (MO) 10 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have to echo another reviewer. You're paying $10 (no more, thank God) for a bunch of ads. I understand they have to pay the bills, but man! How many bills does the publication HAVE? On the positive side, the photos and articles that they DO have peppered throughout are cute and somewhat informative. The production quality of the magazine itself is wonderful. My husband went ahead and renewed my subscription without telling me. I was going to get it expire. I just don't think I should pay for a mag CHOCK FULL of adverts. As long as he went ahead and renewed it, I'll give it another reluctant shot. If anything improves, I'll update this review. I suspect it'll be more of the same. For now, there's better out there.
Great for families with small children February 7, 2008 K. C. Kit (Trinidad. W.I.) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is my favorite magazine for parents. It does have a fair bit of advertising, like the other reviewers mention, but I must say that it does not bother me. All magazines have tons of ads these days, and what I like is that this one limits the ads for infant formula (usually one per issue) and as a committed nursing mom, I really appreciate that! This is the only magazine that I love to read cover to cover. Every article is well written and has a sense of humor. There are articles about babies, preschoolers, kindergarteners and some stuff for primary school kids. Regular features include craft ideas, journal ideas, recipes, family time ideas etc... It's really all good all around. I'm considering unschooling my kids, and the philosophy (about how kids learn etc) of the magazine is not so different from mine, even though this is not a homeschooling magazine. I think everyone genuinly interested in their children and how they see the world would enjoy this magazine.
