I love the '80s! February 20, 2008 Amaranth (Northern California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bowling for Soup's "1985" is a hilarious ode to the era that was the '80s. It's about a housewife bored with her life, reminiscing about better times. She remembers the hair bands&wishes she could dress the way she did then. She's "been with only one man"&daydreams of a liaison with Eddie Van Halen. Bowling for Soup's social commentary is hilarious-and trenchant- when the housewife remembers when MTV actually had music, and "when did Ozzy (Osbourne) become an actor?" "1985" is a funny nostalgia piece. It's Bowling for Soup's best. Here's to 1985!
The 80's Ruled, and 1985 Rocks March 4, 2008 Flap Jackson (State Road, NC) Bowling for Soup is apparently big 80's fans, they jumped at the chance to do a few 80's covers on the Sky High Soundtrack, which met with very mixed results. However, BfS shows their love of the decade by singing about it in their own words... Wait, this is actually a cover of an obscure song that was poorly done by some obscure group. So the song is a cover, but BfS makes it their own, and breathes new life into it. The lyrics are catchy, that are topped with a great chorus, and the energy with this song really drive it. Overall, a great song, that, if you remember the time, or you're just a fan of this kind of rock, than 1985 will rock your socks off. Now here's to hoping they do a 90's song next. ;)
