4 out of 5 stars Almost As Better Through Time   August 3, 2008

Undoubtingly, when it comes down to the so-called "It Girls", most of them are really more about the hype like Rihanna, Jordin Sparks, and the divas that seem to miss out for their songs by being flimsy and cheap. As for Leona Lewis, I am very impressed with the depth of not just her voice, but the songs that she has shown with style and heart. They really don't feel like they are overexposed. Her second single, Better In Time, from her debut album Spirit, really isn't a bad song. The feeling here is a bit more somber with heart, unlike Bleeding In Love, but the song really sounds very well handed. I hope Leona keeps that songstress style coming, she really is the best thing out there right now, and that is better with time.

3 out of 5 stars Mariah Called, She Wants Her Song Back   August 24, 2008

The proclaimed future of modern pop has struck again, and this time it isn't the instant sensation that was "Bleeding Love" nor is it the inspirational ballad of "Footprints In The Sand." Nope, instead she gives us some background music, which may sound in with the times, but comes off as little more than a smooth radio-friendly sap fest.

Musically, you can tell from the review title that the new Mariah is clearly musical fan of the old Mariah. But the not-so deep point here is that it could basically be sung by pop goddess, which doesn't differentiate this song from the rest of the competition.

So if you love Leona, love modern music, love smooth pop/R&B tunes, and love "safe" music, than welcome to the party. But it holds little more than background music for me, because it doesn't really doesn't try to be anything more. Like some countries in the Olympics, some are just satisfied with OK. The goal here is clearly a Grab N' Dash.

5 out of 5 stars Talent, actual talent   August 25, 2008

Yes, this woman truly has talent. This track is a swooning, almost calypso beat, sound that truly entertains the ears. The instruments are full, yet so is Lewis' voice. It is a great song to close your eyes and be whilred away. Another time, a place where pop stars truly have talent and don't require a vocoder to sound pleasant. This woman is a great songstress. The songwriters should be applauded as well.

3 out of 5 stars Decent enough.   September 21, 2008
Dri the Complex Lonely (USA)
The way it's sung is what grabs me. I don't really know all the lyrics but I think just the way it sounds is enough to grab me in.

Nice vocals, especially the way she uses them in the background in the beginning.

3.3 stars.

"Better in Time" is UK phenom Leona Lewis' follow-up to her passionate "Bleeding Love." "Better in time" starts out strong. It's a lament for lost love. Lewis is the mistress of heartbreak. In a way,"Better in time" is superior to "Bleeding Love" because it's truly elegaic. There's a sense of loss, and hope that one day it will be gone. Still,it's formulaic R&B. Lewis is doing a spot-on Mariah Carey impression. Again, she is overproduced. Perhaps Lewis would do better in time as a torch singer in a night club,as people drown their sorrows in cocktails.
