Dyson DC18 great product December 4, 2008 Melanie (Tampa, FL United States) I ordered the Dyson DC18 from Macy's at a clearance price with gift cards; so we got a great deal. At first I wasn't sure if I liked it or not; it seemed wobbly, and I missed some features of my Bissell (red light dirt indicator, and dirt vs fur separation in bin). However, we figured out some things 1) when you leave the Dyson standing upright, you need to lift the red footstand so that it locks in place. This will prevent the Dyson from tipping over 2) the fine dirt is collected in the center chamber so you can't see it unless you look as your emptying (since it empties from the bottom); but it's there and VERY fine; in fact powdery. The vacuum takes a bit to learn how to maneuver (since it goes in many directions instead of just front to back, you have to learn how to steer it). So I vacuumed my entire house and am amazed at how dusty the 'in' valve is, but the exit valve and white washable filter are perfectly clean. This means that absolutely none of the filth is leaving the Dyson - my washable filter is spotless. As Dyson says, the two filters (washable and permanent HEPA) are there for extra protection, the cyclonic force does all the filtering for you. And although my Bissell did pick up 'dirt', it wasn't the fine powdery dirt the Dyson is getting. The extension wand is very cool once you figure it out (the directions are cryptic - pictures that you have to interpret) and I was surprised that I used it from several feet away and the Dyson did not tip (like I said, be sure to click the red footstand up in lock position). Also, whenever you turn the vacuum on the brushbar turns, so if you don't want it on you have to turn it off with the simple push of a button each time. I don't use it on my wood floor or on a smooth finish area rug I have. So far I am happy with my Dyson DC18, although I wouldn't have spent $499 on it - I would have just gone with the ball Animal for the newest technology and additional attachments. Although compared to the Kirby, Rainbow, and Miele, I would rather have a Dyson. While I'm sure they are excellent vacuums, the Dyson's bagless and beltless system, not to mention it's light weight, make it easy to vacuum every day. I would not bother with the Rainbow's water filtration system unless I had severe allergies and time to use it every day (if I'm filling and emptying a water bin I'll just get out my carpet shampooer). Kirby and Miele are expensive, Kirby is heavy and Miele is a canister and both use bags. I'm not spending money on bags all the time unless I have to.
An excellently engineered vacuum November 22, 2008 Chuck (Western Colorado) We were in need of a vacuum with the following features: great suction, light-weight, easy to manuever in tight places, quality construction, and backed by a company with the best warranty and service. Our previous vacuum had died and our carpet needed help with "deep-down" dirt, hair, and other elements. After extensive research, and after considering the Dyson DC-25, we ordered the DC-18 from Amazon. Close friends have had the DC-18 for the past year and highly recommended it. This is the very best vacuum we could have purchased and Amazon is the very best place to buy. We have been very pleased in every way. I might add that we tried the DC-25 in a retail outlet, and were very impressed. We feel the DC-18 is just as good for less money.

The Dyson Slim Dc 18 was unbelievable. It was wonderful on all surfaces and the end results were breath taking. I never write reviews but I was so blown away that I had to...
I love it! October 27, 2008 Jamey Marx (Sitka, AK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great vacuum! I use it everyday and am still amazed at how much dust and dirt I can find in my house. I only gave it 4 stars because I wish it were a little easier to use on my stairs.
worth every penny.. October 24, 2008 Cheryl Polishchuk (Mi, usa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This Dyson is wonderful.. I have contemplated this purchase for a long while.. All of my friends have one, however, I had a hoover bagless with some cyclone tecnology... Not at all,... it was the worst vacuum I have ever owned. It sounded like a frieght train. It had so many area's that were needing to be changed and cleaned..I have no pets,.. and it was horrible.. My Dyson is easy to use and really does have wonderful suction. It has a very easy to use hose, I love it...
