the best way to eat apples July 13, 2006 B. E Jackson (Pennsylvania) 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
Using an apple slicer is the best way to eat an apple. Seriously, if the apple slicer didn't exist I probably wouldn't even eat them (or pears). Did you know an apple slicer works on pineapple, too? First, take the pineapple and remove the outside skin (use a knife). After that's done use the knife to cut across the pineapple into about 8 or 9 slices. Then, take the apple slicer and push down on those 8 or 9 slices. Unless you have an unusually large pineapple, it should fit perfectly. I found out this works last week. The apple slicer will also remove the rough core located in the middle of the pineapple. Anyway, about this apple slicer. It has little handles on the side which is nice. Mine doesn't have that. Pick one up.

Dalla Piazza Apple Slicer As a category, apple corers/slicers aren't up there with air, water, and Monday Night Football, but this one is a pleasurable example of its species . With sharp slicing and coring edges (careful) and large handles with clearance to protect your knuckles from a too-enthusiastic down-stroke, the Dalla slicer is fast, and easy to clean after you extract your neat slices, The only drawback is some difficulty in slicing very large apples. It takes all my weight and some rocking action, but normal-sized apples core and divide quickly and simply with little effort. Some say it's pricey for a simple slicer (my wife, for example), but it's so well made it should last long enough to pass down to your children, and they to theirs.
lots of slices, fast May 29, 2008 S. E. Soons (Beacon, NY USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We sell a wonderful American-made slicer at my family farm, Soons Orchards, but it does only 8 slices. This does 12, which makes a difference in chopping time for when we do applesauce, for example. (Our bakery is also using it.) I also plan to use it when we're busy in the fall for apple sampling. It's very heavy (which is good) and the raised handles are a nice touch. It is a sharp tool, of course, so keep it away from little hands.
High Quality, Works Great February 23, 2008 Thomas C. Franks (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Did a little research and learned other slicers were prone to breaking. This one piece - all steel - model is of excellent quality and works great!

Not as easy to use as described if you don't have hand strength. Wetting it did not help. I had to have husband help cut the apples and he too found it difficult. However, once cut, the smaller slices were very nice. Did not find it to be better than the less expensive apple slicers available on the market. Recommend slicing apples with a good knife.
