I love this mic March 27, 2007 Rick Van Hazel (Phoenix, AZ) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have this corded version and have also used the beta 58a cordless and countless other mics for vocals. I sing in the higher ranged octaves and I prefer this mic over any others because of its excellent response and sensitivity throughout its range, it also has no problems picking up lower frequencies. It also has an extremely narrow arc of sound pickup. Which for a microphone is a very good quality because you wont get feedback very often regardless of the ambient noise around you. I was testing a few things at home on my equiment and was recording some vocal tracks while singing along to some background music. The recording picked up so little of the background music that once you combine it with the other tracks, its next to impossible to tell it was even recorded with anything else even on! This mic by far is the best one to use if you sing in any falsetto voice, its very sensitive and reproduces vocals of this type better than anything i've ever picked up. I know it also does well in some of the lower ranged octaves from hearing other people sing on it, but I think if that is your primary range you can go with the cheaper Beta 58 instead of the 58a. They are similar but the 58a seems to be a little more friendly to upper ranged vocals than the 58. Once you've used this mic, you will notice the difference in every other mic you ever use after. This one is just plain superior.
It's a Shure 58... of course it's great April 10, 2007 J. Fraser (Newport Beach, CA United States) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
The SM58 is pretty much the #1 choice by most people for a stage handheld. The Beta 58 is basically the same, but better. Better quality sound and better gain before feedback. It's a great mic and that's all there is to it! The only thing that Shure could improve would be to have a better quality bag with more padding, this would just protect the mic a little more when lugging it around.
Yea, and amen... January 10, 2008 T. Pifer (Traverse City, MI) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I purchased 5 of these for my worship team vocalists to replace some old beat-up Behringer mics. I flattened the EQs on the mixer, and BAM! we have clean, punchy vocals without the mud, and the feedback is gone. Nice tight pickup pattern and very rugged. Worth every penny...
Can't believe the price! May 14, 2007 W. Ward (Mayville, NY USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
In these days when the beta 58 counterfeits are rampant, I was pleased to see that these were the real deal. Brand-new, untouched, and shipped very quickly. Way below the competitors' prices.

If you actually need a review to figure out the quality of a Beta 58A, then you're just better off calling one of your friends who really knows what they're doing and asking them. SM58 is the baseline industry standard and gives good response. Beta 58 builds on that, adding a little more low and a lot more high. If you've been using really cheap gear and you pick up one of these, the first thing you'll notice is that you just enjoy singing with it. It has a nice bass rolloff and proximity effect that lets you get much different sounds, all of the nice, depending on how close the mic is to your mouth. Great mic, and Amazon usually has a great price, depending on who the resellers are.
