light hamburger bun - bagel sub October 16, 2006 S. Bird (Chico, CA United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have been gluten free for two years now and have long given up on having a hamburger bun again. However, one of my favorite GF breads is the Ener-G light Tapioca loaf (when toasted and buttered, reminds me of regular white bread as tapioca tastes more like wheat than rice breads do) so I thought I'd give these a try. We tried a hamburger with everything, burger, mayo/mustard, cheese, avocado, onion slice, and even bacon, and it went fairly well. The bun is a little on the small side and had some crumbling on the bottom toward the end, but not too much unlike my memory of a regular bun. Also, the buns are a little on the dry side, but I'm fine with that - most GF bread products are heavy and wet. This even has a nice chewy texture to it and smells faintly of sourdough. We briefly toasted it on the grill with the burgers first. Today I toasted one in the toaster and spread with cream cheese, sprinkled with minced garlic, and this is the closest to a bagel I've had in several years. I'm thrilled! Now I have a great breakfast (wrote "breadfast" first! ha!) to try other than the regular GF cereals I've been eating for more than a while. Plus, Ener-G products are packaged so they will have a long shelf life, so buying a 6-pack (four buns per pack) is no problem - they'll be good for quite a while. I would give this a 4 1/2 if I could - the 1/2 is because of the dryness. However, I notice it less with cream cheese on it. Enjoy!

I ordered 2 cases of this product - over 1/2 of them were totally green - apparantly Ener-g didnt seal the vacuum packs correctly. This is a great tasting product because I have purchased this product previously. Amazon did give me the credit for it without any hassles, but this was a real turn off to this product.
Easy Gluten Free Rolls March 16, 2007 Gluten Free Parent (Camden, ME) I tried alot of Gluten Free rolls for my 11 yr old son and these are the ones that he loves to eat. They last about a week or so in the refrigerator and you can freshen them up by popping them in the microwave for about 10-15 seceonds. A great product for all those that require gluten free. We like the hot dog rolls and bread too. It's great that Amazon has them now
Tapioca hamburger buns June 2, 2007 Dawn Clark I was really disappointed when I tried the hamburger buns. No matter what I did with them, including heating them in the microwave with a damp paper towel, they were hard to chew and swallow and did not taste anything remotely close to a hamburger bun. This is one item I would not recommend to any one.
What you want in a roll September 13, 2007 Love my food (Missouri) I really like these rolls because it is the FILLING that is important to me. I find that most GF breads/rolls have a strong taste that detracts from the taste of the filling. This product has a very light taste, meaning I can enjoy it with anything including butter and honey, or with a turkey pattie and salad. The texture is great (for GF) especially when lightly toasted and it doesn't crumble at all (miracle!)
