This book "Stranger With My Face", by Lois Duncan, is an extermely good book. It's a great book for practically anyone with moods varing from romance to suspense and mystery. I would reccommend this book to anyone who does not like to read or anyone who has a hard time finding good reading material. I also found this book to be extreamly addicitve....once you start it's hard to stop. Lois Duncan is a great author, and she really did a great job on writing this.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for teens -- or used-to-be-teens!!!!!!   August 24, 1999

I first read STRANGER WITH MY FACE when i was 17 3/4 in 1985. I'm (gasp) 31 now, (but part of me is still a teenager at heart) and I still think it's xlent. Very imaginative, great sense of fantasy, perfect mix of the real life of a teen and pure make-believe, and a perfect mix of bright and dark. I loved the part where Laurie's twin was playing tonsil-hockey with Laurie's studly boyfriend, and I loved the way Laurie treated the character of Jeff -- as a human being, not as a freak. When I read this book as a young'un, I did think Laurie was kind of out of her mind to choose the disfigured Jeff as a boyfriend, rather than the gorgeous Gordon, but now that I'm older, I kind of changed my stance on that. I guess looks aren't as important when you're an adult as when you're 17 and can understand Laurie choosing Jeff over Gordon.

The title of the book that I read was Stranger With My Face, written by Lois Duncan. This is a very good fiction book that I recommend for older teenagers who like the kind of books that deal with mysterious adventures. This book is about a girl named Laurie Stratton who has a very simple, enjoyable life until she finds out many things from her past. Laurie always feels like someone is watching her and when all of Laurieys friends and family claim that they see her places, when sheys actually not there, she begins to question what is going on in her life. Her simple, enjoyable life suddenly goes down the drain when she finds out that this identical person that is watching her, is really trying to take over her life. She finds out that this person isnyt just anybody, but itys her identical twin sister, Lia, that was separated from her at birth. Laurie and Lia have the exact same physical appearances but the only thing that is different about the two of them is that Lia is a very evil person. Lia only appears in spirit and not in her actual solid body. She uses astral projection to have her spirit leave her body and she becomes Laurie in spirit then. Her goal is to take over Laurieys life and turn it around for the worse. Lia begins to appear in not only Laurieys life but in her friends and familiesy lives too. She knocks Laurieys best friend Helen unconscious and almost kills Laurieys boyfriend Jeff. With all of the things that Lia is doing to Laurieys life, she becomes more curious to see what Liays life is like, so she too starts using astral projection to get a glimpse at Liays life. When Laurie starts using astral projection she realizes that there is many dangers to using it and terrible things begin to happen to her, and this is when her life begins to take a turn for the worse.
I would give this book a rating of four stars out of five stars just because both the beginning and the end of the book could have been a little more interesting. The plot was very, very interesting to the point where I couldnyt put the book down! I recommend this book to many teenagers and this is an excellent mystery, horror book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Supernatural Thriller   April 7, 2000

few writers spook me like Duncan does. Stranger with my Face was the first book of hers I read. Although the actual plot doesn't thrill, its the depth of the bad character's evilness and the manipulating game she plays on the main character that really makes this story good. Also, there is romance, family bonding and loyalty among friends that makes this book even better. If you like romance, spooky thrillers and happy endings, I recommend this book highly.
