Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This Nutshell provides a succinct description of the fundamentals of U.S. patent law. Ranging from the acquisition of patent rights to their enforcement, it contains an overview of relevant statutes, rules, and cases that collectively define this area of intellectual property law. Topics include claim construction, obviousness, anticipation, written description and enablement, infringement, remedies, and other notable doctrines. Patent law has evolved quickly in the past few years. This Nutshell captures those changes and relates them well to the overall fabric of intellectual property law. This reference is suitable for use by those with a beginner s knowledge of patent law, but it has sufficient depth to be instructive for every practitioner in this exciting and dynamic field.

5 out of 5 stars Helpful   February 1, 2008

Similar to the other patent law supplements out there, but more recent. Rader is an author, which gives the book a unique perspective in some parts. Keep the title in mind ("nutshell") - the book gives a good, basic overview of the topics that is very helpful in understanding the more complex course material.

5 out of 5 stars Great Patent Law Overview   May 3, 2008
M. Young
This Nutshell's organization follows the Cases and Materials on Patent Law, Second Edition casebook by Adelman, Rader, Thomas, and Wegner. If you are using this casebook, then the Nutshell is a no-brainer purchase. Where the Nutshell is organized differently (Chapter 1 Foundations of Patent Law and in a more general way towards the end of book on infringement, defenses, remedies, etc.), I actually liked its organization better than the casebook. The Nutshell even has a passable index, as opposed to the atrocious index in the casebook. The best part is that the Nutshell is new enough that KSR is discussed in many appropriate places, and the discussion does not feel added on at the last minute.

This book will not make you a patent law expert, but it will help you learn some nuances of patent law.

5 out of 5 stars Great Supplement   December 26, 2008
J. Strain
This nutshell is a great supplement for nay law school patent class. It summarizes all the landmark cases and gives a thorough explanation of many of the complexities of patent law.
