5 out of 5 stars Not just for newbies!   April 11, 2006

If you already have (like me) several T-Tapp videos in your collection, don't think you won't learn anything new from this book. Teresa finally has time/space to go into the science of the workout--not just what it does, but WHY it does it. She also gives EXCELLENT form pointers--I just did the beginner workout VEEERRRYYY slowly using her form pointers, and this multi-year TTapp junkie is feeling the difference. (and sweating!) There are invaluable reminders and form checks. Plenty of photos of the various poses and form check tips make it easy to follow. She's also made a few adjustments to the workout--a new (to me, at any rate) arm movement, the return of my favorite Lawn Mowers, etc. I've not checked out the DVD yet, but just based on the science and the form checks alone, this book is a Must Buy, even for seasoned T-Tappers. Don't pass this one up!

5 out of 5 stars Great addition to t-tapp workouts   May 8, 2006

I have been tapping since 99 before the website ever existed and this program worked for me. There weren't even any trainers available either. So you don't need a trainer to make this program work for you. To this day I have still never been to a trainer. Though it would be nice to help on form tips. This program has never let me down. I used to do free weights and aerobics 6 days a week and lost nothing! This workouts is truly a different approach to fitness. I love the addition of the book to help me keep on my toes as my form still keeps improving after 7 yrs of tapping. You will loose alot of inches alot faster than with other programs and believe me I have done just about alot of them and have never seen my body look as good as it does now. When I used to workout 6 days a week I was not as trim as I am now. Someone saw me recently and said I look thinner now than when I used to workout 6 days a week 8 yrs ago! Boy was I shocked that I even looked thinner now than then.

I put in alot less time working out and alot less time stressing about working out. Also Teresa's eating plan for me is the best. It keeps me eating healthy and has worked better than any diet that I could never ever do any ways. Of course eating healthy is part of any exercise program but with t-tapp you can cheat more without freaking out you will gain everything back and it gets you out of the food obsessive mode so many women are on. Life should be enjoyable not obsessive stressed out days of worrying about how much time has been put into working out or how many calories have been consumed. If you are looking for a different approach t-tapp is the way to go. It is very different from what is being taught in most exercise programs but then I think that is what makes this world a wonderful place to be in at certain times. If no one ever stepped out of the "typical boundaries" about what one should be doing to loose weight or anything else for that matter this world would not have evolved to what it is now. I thank the Teresa Tapp's of this world and all the other people who have taken the risk to come out with different ways to think and be so that we can progress at being better people outside as well as on the inside. Thank you Teresa Tapp you have made my 40's a great place to be in! Thank you thank you!

5 out of 5 stars I'm down one size in one and a half weeks, and that's not even the best part   May 2, 2006

My energy and my mood have sky-rocketed! After years of extreme, undiagnosed fatigue and steady weight gain, I suddenly feel great. I am playful instead of dutiful with my children, I am dancing and singing along with the music station instead of slogging through my day listening to monotonous talk radio, and my husband and I are experiencing something akin to a renaissance. And I am loving my snug clothes getting loose and my loose clothes hitting the Goodwill box.

T-Tapp is the real deal. It really works, and works quickly. But be forewarned: it isn't without effort. It is completely unlike getting on a treadmill and zoning out for thirty minutes. Learning T-Tapp is more like learning to play an instrument. It requires thought, concentration, application, and practice.

For example, after doing Organs in Place all week, I suddenly felt a real, physical shift occur while I was doing "tighten, release, tighten, release" the other day. I had been thinking of that part as just strengthening muscles after organs were in place, but no--it is a huge part of the actual "putting organs in place" part! A week of going through the motions, and then sudden insight and a new level of effectiveness. This new understanding has changed the way I do that move a bit. Now, I was already seeing great progress before I *got* this fine point, but getting it really made a difference. In other words, faking it till you make it is okay, in fact, vital, as long as you keep trying to perfect your technique.

I am generally pleased with the book itself. Unfortunately, it can't download the information directly into my brain, but it does give detailed, well-illustrated instructions for each posture and movement, including the whys and the most common mistakes. It is written clearly, although the complexity of the subject is bound to make even the clearest writing overwhelm at first. I loved the index, and find it and excellent crib-sheet for navigating the website. While I enjoyed all the success stories, I did find the way they are inserted into the text distracting. I also found myself a little unsure a couple of times if a photo was illustrating good form or a common mistake, due to lack of clear captions.

Though I've never met her, I adore Teresa Tapp, and feel indebted to her for the years of work that she poured into developing the T-Tapp system, testing and documenting it's effectiveness, and bringing it to the public. She is not afraid of scientific studies! I perceive her as educated, knowledgeable and honest, and bought some things from her website I would never have believed were anything but a rip-off from any other source. (Think "cellulite.") But I'd like to see T-Tapp made more "user friendly." I think this book is a great step in that direction, but I hope there is a restructuring of the website in the works.

The T-Tapp website is a wonderful resource, and I spend a lot of time there these days, surfing for free, looking for inspiration as well as information. But is so difficult to navigate.

For example, I ordered several items from the site--which arrived promptly and were a real treat to get. But the ordering process was a real pain. I had to locate products by wading through categories clicking through several different pages, then check the boxes of products I wanted. So far, not too bad, but when I tried to check out, only the last couple of item appeared in my cart. I finally figured out that after selecting items you have to click on a *check out* link at the bottom of the page to put the checked items in your cart, or you lose the items when you move on to continue shopping. And the system times you out really quickly if you step away to get your purse or change a diaper. With all my bumbling, I had to start from scratch a couple of times. (I really wanted the stuff...I'd never have persevered for a more casual interest.)

I'd love to see website that's more intuitive to navigate, with a checkout system as easy as Amazon's.

It's sort of a metaphor for the beauty and frustration of T-Tapp itself, now that I think about it. It is more complex and requires more of us mentally than we expect from exercise, but we stick with it because the payoff is so huge. T-Tapp may get refined and more accessible, as the years pass, but until then, it's worth the effort. If it were the same old same old that fit our comfort level, it wouldn't be revolutionary, or worth your money.

1 out of 5 stars BE CAUTIOUS OF REVIEWS   May 7, 2006

The T-Tapp forum is full of customers who have been asked to write reviews and SPAM OTHER WEBSITES such as CollageVideo and Videofitness.com over the last few years with only positive things to say about T-Tapp. I don't think ONE positive review I've read here is from a person who just read the book and not a long-term customer of T-Tapp products and/or a trainer who SELLS T-TAPP PRODUCTS.

The workout works, but it is nothing new. Knee to little toe, same as most physical therapy and dance therapy (i.e., Peggy Brill or Eric Franklin) have been saying for years. Body alignment? Nothing new there also since Lotte Berk and Callanetics. However, the book is full of customer reviews and really you'd need the video (DVD or VHS) at the very minimum (trainers are highly recommended) to "make" the program work for you. There are other far less costly programs out there.

Also of note is the fact that MOST of the reviewers have NEVER reviewed other books. I have under a different account name with my former email address. I was also certified in fitness through two nationally recognized companies until I took time off (ACE and AFAA). I am sure once this review is posted it will generate more *five star* reviews and receive tons of discussion on the T-Tapp board.

The book is a good intro to the TTapp program but the vidoes are really required to see and understand everything that is going on. The book is more like an infomercial. An infobook.
I'm hoping future videos will be better quality and not in Teresa's living room. Professionally done and with other body types in the videos.
There have been many form changes over time, so many of the older videos are out of date. Buying videos and going to T-Tapp events for form checks by a 'trainer' becomes very expensive.

Yes this is a review about the book - I do believe the book is a little misleading. The book talks about doing only T-Tapp. The body NEEDS cardio everyday. Especially to lose weight. It is recommended to do 30 plus minutes a day 5 or more days a week of walking or similar exercise to increase cardio endurance and to burn excess fat. The book says just doing T-Tapp is all you need. I have been a fitness instructor for many years and I totally disagree with that recommendation. Doing T-Tapp in ADDITION to your regular exercise routine is great for firming and toning. Just like adding pilates or strength training to a regular fitness routine.

The book talks about alignment, but when you look at the pictures of form in KTL "knee little toe" the knee is out of alignment of the ankle and hip. Pushing the knee out in this compromised position can cause serious knee problems. Most certifying organizations like IFPA, ACE and AFAA recommend keeping the knee in alignment with the ankle. If you go the the T-Tapp forum and do a search, you will find many complaints of knee problems. So just be aware of that.
